Building on our designs for the Clydebank Bridge canopy, we designed a cantilevered crane structure to create a gathering space for the Lighthouse to represent Scotland at the Venice Biennale. The covered space is accessed off a generous ramp and sits on a square plinth that is formed from a ring beam to hold the structure down without connecting to the piazza under. The covered space can be used to hold events, has integrated projection system and storage. Representing Scotland the pavilion can be viewed from approaches as a saltire, with the two arms crossing each other against the illuminated canopy-covering backdrop.
