Play parks are often predictable, with slides and swings ring-fenced in the middle of the park with often no relationship or wider connection to the landscape around. Our work at Grounds for Play, Glasgow has allowed us to develop structures and ideas that are compatible with children and safety requirements: a new view on what play structures can be. Developing from our ideas of clouds in Glasgow, our proposals at John Leigh Park explores the theme of weather and climate change. A big rainbow arch provides the entrance to the area and a bright yellow sun path walkway wraps around the edge of the park connecting the play area to the wider landscape. Structures and installations inserted into this space are based on meteorological concepts, rain, wind, clouds, snow, ice etc providing a fun, learning space for children to discover and play.
