A new house on a prominent open meadow site in the village centre is proposed to replace an existing undeveloped consent. Our design nestles into the sloping site forming a private courtyard to the south and a strong street elevation to the north. Inspired by Mackintosh the client is interested in developing with us the Scottish building tradition. Proportion, materials and scale are all considered bringing together our design approach, working with local craftsmen, to achieve a beautiful exterior-interior inter-relationship.
The landscape setting of the house is maintained by allowing free open meadow with wild flowers around the front of the house facing Main Street. To the rear of the property the granite courtyard faces a new woodland edge giving privacy and enclosure. A secret walled garden is proposed to the west of the house providing a delicate manicured.
