The stereotypical ‘Lego box’ house often extended with a upvc conservatory or garage conversion was our starting point. Instead of the obvious options already tested along the street the client asked for a little more space, a lot more light, connection to the garden with minimising internal alterations. Our proposal here creates a room that joins up the existing kitchen and living areas to form an open plan arrangement, which can be compartmentalised if required. As well as joining up the internal spaces our design unifies the external appearance with one roofline across the elevation making sense of the existing flat roof. A curved wall of glass sweeps around the edge of the new space offering uninterrupted views across the mature garden.
