Castle in Loch Lomond

The estate includes a listed country house, scheduled monument tower keep, derelict glasshouses, manicured lawns and extensive farmland. Rundown for many years the estate requires a fresh and inventive review arising from an understanding of the site, to allow for all of the many parts to work together harmoniously. The master plan we are developing introduces four holiday lodges, new estate office/garage, car parking, landscape/infrastructure improvements and ultimately the restoration/consolidation of the tower. The proposed plan shows the aspirations of our client to be achieved over a series of phases and years by developing the buildings and landscape of the estate.

The master plan creates a setting around the tower without detracting from the current peaceful landscape. We are also reintroducing a water feature and fountain in the overgrown garden area. Access to the site will remain the same with improvements to the tree lined avenue and the introduction of new lighting. To preserve a tranquil setting, the lodges will not have parking immediately beside them but within 50 metres of the buildings. We aim to create new accommodation in a modern Scottish vernacular style.

Completed work in the country house includes the conversion of two rooms into a grand drawing room, converting the billiard room into a master bedroom suite and a new office in one of the outbuildings. A new estate office and garage is planned beside the house in place of the current disconnected 1960's garage. The design relates to the geometry of the keep and house.
