As the Forth and Clyde Canal passes through the centre of Clydebank between the two shopping centre complexes the spaces on either side are left over, neither car park nor people park, not really connecting two places. Our idea for Clydebank Rebuilt was to create a fun people place using giant super scale letters ‘FORTH & CLYDE CANAL’ each one with a different function, finish or material. Some were play structures for kids, one a waterfall, one a café and another a newspaper kiosk etc. Fun and life brought through a good design is the solution needed for this bleak and dreary part of the town. This project was tendered before the bridge canopy and was a joint submission with Hirsts Landscape Architects.
