Dunreath Centre, Pollokshields, Glasgow
more information
Our project brief was to design a new activity wing for this thriving education centre in the conservation area of Pollokshields. Replacing tired and rarely used out buildings, the design incorporates level access to the centre alongside much- needed changing facilities, a meeting room, and a large activity space. With minimum change to the front elevation, our design expands back into the space created by removing outbuildings and forms a connection to the raised garden. The triangular roof form encloses a courtyard which acts as an extension to the large activity room and guides people via a gateway up to the gardens. We propose a grass roof which will read as an extension to the upper lawn, blurring the edge between building and landscape and reducing the impact when seen from above.
